Linksys rolls out draft 802.11n gear for networks and laptops
Add Linksys to the growing number of
companies rolling out products that adhere to the draft 802.11n standard. The company's new additions are the
Wireless-N Broadband Router ( WRT300N) and Wireless-N Notebook Adapter (WPC300N ). As you've probably already figured
out, the WRT300N can connect your equipment to your broadband network and serve as an access point for wireless devices
-- such as a laptop equipped with the WPC300N (or, of course, most 802.11b/g devices). The WRT300N is expected to retail
for about $150, while the WPC300N should go for about $120. Seems a small price to pay for 100 mbps throughput -- if you
can really get that kind of speed, that is.

Just give me a WRT54GL in that enclosure! Wowza, that's hot.
srw985 @ Apr 24th 2006 2:34PM
Sounds good. Might get one when they come out.
FIRST POST!!!

Nice to see that Linksys' decision NOT to hire any industrial designers is paying off

It's always hilarious when someone thinks that they have the first post and puts it in capital letters...
Besides that, I think that this stuff is pretty damn cool...is it the same tech as the Belkin Pre-N stuff I have seen advertised?
If it is...looks nice...might build my next wireless network with the stuff...

That thing looks like some kind of antenna array u find on top of those military vehicles.

Warning! Warning! Danger Wil Robinson!
Is it just me or does this thing have some resemblance to the robot in Lost in Space...
badbob @ Apr 24th 2006 3:27PM
The Ghostbusters just called and want their ecto plasma detector back.

FYI: Do some research on Pre-N tech. Not all devices are created equal and not all devices will hold hands with each other.

Just spent 20 minutes on the phone. Looks like someone at Linksys jumped the gun.
Jonathan R @ Apr 24th 2006 4:02PM
I thought that some researchers found something wrong with Pre-N. I know I bought a Pre-N router a little while ago and it didn't work well with anything that I had wireless in my home.

Battle of the product pimp-out... 3rd antenna router vs. 3rd nacelle Enterprise-D from "all good things"
anon @ Apr 24th 2006 4:09PM
What happen to 802.11n being 540Mb/sec? I hope that 100M is an "actual factual" throughput.
JP @ Apr 24th 2006 4:38PM
I for one welcome our new ugly-ass wireless routing overlords.
Herman @ Apr 24th 2006 5:08PM
Will this work with the previous SRX/MIMO stuff?
Big Sam @ Apr 24th 2006 5:27PM
I won't go near any of this stuff until the spec is finalized.
navstar @ Apr 24th 2006 7:00PM
What Dilbert engineer designed this case?? LORD! Hire a product designer --PLEEZ!
Jonathan Worrel @ Apr 24th 2006 7:36PM
finally, an 802.11n product that is so close to the finalized spec. I'll definitely be picking one of these up this weekend.
OverburN @ Apr 24th 2006 8:22PM
u may think this is a freudian slip but that box has some sexy antenna's on them
strider_mt2k @ Apr 24th 2006 9:30PM
It looks like a Moisture Vaporator.
Very similar to Binary Load Lifters in most repects.
Jared @ Apr 24th 2006 10:12PM
I just don't get the point. The g standard already exceeds the speed capabilities of most broadband internet connections.
Jo @ Apr 24th 2006 10:35PM
Uh, streaming high def video, centralized data storage without cabling?
nizzy1115 @ Apr 24th 2006 10:47PM
Yeah, it's meant for file sharing in your own network. Streaming music/video through out your house etc.

I think that this stuff is pretty damn cool...is it the same radio tech as the Belkin Pre-N stuff I have seen advertised?

Newb ?s: How much faster is this than 802.11g? Isnt g like 54mpbs, so n = about 2x the speed?
How much faster is it to directly plug into a cable modem than connecting wirelessly to an 802.11g router?
Ryan @ May 1st 2006 8:38PM
Does it have to be sexy I am just going to lock it in the dank closet
Mike @ May 10th 2006 11:59AM
Is it sexy? Because honestly, if I came across a woman that had a similar shape, I would definitely not be like, "Damn, she's sexy!" Maybe, "Damn, you see how wide and thin she is, with those wierd things sticking out of her head?".
